subject = jos crisis
Please i need help on this topic.
Do Christians,i mean real Christian, pick up arms and fight back?
I love God and trust in His ability to keep me safe but how
do i react when this kind of danger comes near my family?
Pray and die? Pray and run? When there's no where to
run? Pray and fight?

My prayer now is that God in His mercy will help us show
these ones His true love by forgiving them from our hearts
and hopefully converting them through love.

Peace be with you.

Thank you for your question.
1. There is no one answer to this kind of situation, Jesus never gave us a right to suicide, vengeance or retaliation. Life is a gift from God and must be held in Trust, just as we hold other lives in trust. In fact Jn 10:10 makes very clear the purpose of life.
2.We have been guaranteed persecution as a mark of our discipleship, Mark 10:28-30. This is because it is Jesus and not another who will be at the Judgement seat on the last day.
3. The Bible has ample illustrations of HOW to deal with ARSON, BANDTITORY, RIOTS, ROBBERY and all forms of LAWLESSNESS. The powers that be, upon whom the governance of the people depends, have been empowered by God to act on behalf the people to do JUSTICE for all, purnishing the criminals and giving judgement to the just and protecting the innocent.Rom 13 : 1-8.
4. The act of self DEFENCE in protecting your life and property from the ungodly, unruly and misguided elements of the society is a perfectly just way of keeping life and property protected from waste and wanton destruction. The book of Esther is a good example as well the experience of Nehemiah. This is also reflected in our Nigerian constitution.
On the whole each person must seek to apply the situation as the Lord guides.

The Lord be with you,

From Mumbai to Jos:

The Familiar Face of Islamic Fanaticism
Mumbai and Jos may be dissimilar in many ways. They are continentally separated, culturally differentiated, and racially un-identical. Yet, these two cities shared a lot in common in as much the same time—grief ensuing from Islamic radicalization and fanaticism. People in Jos watched the transmission of the siege of the Taj Mahal in Mumbai that began on the 26th of November not knowing they would joining them along the line, precisely on the 28th November, 2008. While the wealthy Western media outfits did not spare us minute by minute update of the Taj Mahal in Mumbai, the same cannot be said about their reporting of the Jos crisis, as it took the BBC World seventy-two hours to make a less than a minute passing remark about it.
As a Christian who has lived in Jos all my life I have come to expect less than objective reporting from the BBC when the issue is between Christians and Muslims in Nigeria. That it took this long before BBC World’s scandalous report on the Jos crisis makes me wonder if they would not have made major headlines of their news content if Nationals from their countries were involved—the EU and American Interest, as was the case with the Taj Mahal in Mumbai.
I must admit I have difficulties figuring out the exact problem with the Hausa sections of the BBC, VOA, and DW and their modus operandi. Is there no editorial board in place that sieves to ascertain the accuracy and truthfulness of what gets aired as news? Is the selective interview of Muslims as in the Jos crisis a strategy, an oversight or both? In the Jos crisis these media outfits have never shied away from saying whose side they are on—the Hausa-Fulani Muslims in Jos. The Hausa Muslims have found in these media outfits an avenue where their religious interest and sentiments are often protected, projected and propagated, and very often to the detriment of reputable journalism and the few who are not thus religiously connected with such media outfits. Otherwise how could anyone explain why it took BBC world seventy two hours before devoting a minute in its news to the Jos crisis terming it “post election” violence, and saying no fewer than three hundred Muslims were killed and providing no single statistic of the number of Christians killed. This lopsided reporting from the BBC and BBC World only leaves one wondering why they have become notoriously pro-Islamic.
The little known, maybe even “unsuspected” terrorist group, “Deccan Mujahedeen,” who took siege of the Taj Mahal did not hide their motives for antics that are the trademark of Islamic fanaticism—vengeance for perceived marginalization, intimidation and onslaught against Muslims in India. In Jos, one could only wish the Hausa Muslims gave reasons for these unprovoked attacks, maiming and slayings of Christians and their Clergies, the burning and demolition of churches. They have however, never been secretive about their intentions for Jos—Islamization at all cost! But the West with its penchant for theories classifies “Islamization at all cost” as a conspiracy theory. Every Christian in Jos knows better, if there is a conspiracy theory it is not about the Islamizaztion of Jos, it is people trying to tell Christians there isn’t.
The uprising left in its wake not less than thirty churches razed, three Pastors killed, and several people, Christians and Muslims alike killed and displaced. Whether or not the Jos Islamic uprising merits the West’s categorization of “terrorist” and “terrorism” will be the task of the “shapers” of history with their sometimes selective labeling depending on whether they are directly or indirectly the advantaged or disadvantaged. I do not want to display ignorance about how the number of countries involved in a siege can affect its coverage such as the Taj Mahal, but when the value of the human life gets tied to the color of one’s skin as evident in disproportionate media coverage and the number of casualties in Mumbai and Jos remains worrisome.
